On July 24 first deputy Governor of the Murmansk region Alexey Tyukavin held a meeting with the delegation of acting Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Saint Petersburg Ms. Pyo Jung Hwa. During the opening speech Mr. Tyukavin noted a growing interest towards Murmansk region from the Far East countries. There have been 2 delegations from Japan and one Chinese delegation visiting Murmansk this year. The Russian Government pays a special attention to the development of the Arctic nowadays. The Strategy for the development of the Arctic Zone of Russia was introduced in 2013. In this regard Murmansk Regional Government is aiming at transforming the region into a high-profile Arctic development center by 2020-2025. Ms. Pyo Jung Hwa in her turn pointed out that the Korean delegations have already visited Murmansk and are interested in launching an effective cooperation in spheres of tourism and IT.
