Annually, on August 9, International day of the world’s indigenous peoples is being observed in the Murmansk region. Festivities are organized in the towns and villages where Sami, region’s indigenous people, reside. The very first celebration took place in Lovozero in 2009. This year Tuloma in Kola district will host festivities. First pronounced by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1994, International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples has become a symbol of indigenous peoples’ unification and mental togetherness of the population of the Murmansk region.
