On March 14, 2015 a unique mass ski run “The Ski Track of Friendship” took place in Rajakoski (Murmansk region). Borders were opened towards the sport event traditionally on this day and at this location. Sportsmen and athletes didn’t have to get any visas or passports to cross borders of Russia, Norway and Finland while skiing 6.5 kilometer track on Russian territory, a kilometer through Finland and 5 kilometers through Norwegian territory. About three thousand fans of active leisure from Russia, Norway, Finland, Germany, Argentina and Sweden took part in the unique sporting event. The governor of Murmansk region Marina Kovtun was among them. Welcoming the participants and spectators of “The Ski Track of Friendship” the governor outlined that Barents region countries deeply appreciate this tradition, which has been uniting sportsmen and bordering countries for the eighteenth time. “Today “The Ski Track of Friendship” has started in Rajakoski for the eighteenth time – the sport holiday without any borders. Even during these tough times when there is a tense situation on the international area, we are still loyal to this good tradition. Both we and our colleagues in Barents region show deep appreciation to the tradition we founded together. We will take care of it, because it is an intrinsic value”, - Said Marina Kovtun and expressed the hope that the next “Ski Track of Friendship” will attract even more participants. Marina Kovtun thanked border guards of the three countries for their commitment to the unique sport tradition, which was founded over 20 years ago. Border commissioners of Russia, Norway and Finland wished good luck to all of the athletes and stressed that the winner of the racing was friendship.
