On February 6, 2016 Sami National Day was celebrated in Murmansk. Then Indigenous Council under the Government of the Murmansk region held a meeting to discuss current Sami issues. National day was also marked with a scientific conference “Murmansk region – dwelling area of Kola indigenous people of Sami”. During the celebration Sami flag was raised. Vice-governor Anatoly Vekshin took part in the event and greeted all the attendees on behalf of the Governor Marina Kovtun.
