On June 11 31st traditional Sami Games took place in Lovozero. For the first time festival was held in 1985 and has been conducted annually ever since. On behalf of the Governor of the Murmansk region Marina Kovtun vice minister of domestic policy and mass communications of the region Mikhail Shilov welcomed all those gathered in Lovozero. “Government of the Murmansk region and municipal authorities place high emphasis on preservation and development of indigenous people of the Kola North. In accordance with regional state program there are measures designed to facilitate development of Sami people economically and socially”.
