A memorial sign of the Russian Geographical Society was erected right in the geographical center of the Kola Peninsula to mark the region’s 80th anniversary.
In accordance with the measurements done by Roman Ivanov, a schoolboy from Kirovsk, and later examined by the cartographers of the Russian Geographical Society the geographical midpoint of the Kola Peninsula is situated in the settlement of Lovozero, located at 68º 00’ 15” N 35º 00’ 35” E.
