Mass meeting held in Murmansk on Day of Remembrance and Mourning
On June 22 a mass meeting was held in Murmansk to mark the Day of Remembrance and Mourning. War veterans, workers of the home front, militaries and students together with regional and city authorities gathered at the monument to the defenders of the Soviet North in the Great Patriotic war.
In his remarks first deputy governor of the Murmansk region Alexey Tyukavin noted that June 22 had gone down in history as the most disastrous day. Border guarding forces, Red Army and the Northern Fleet, people of Murmansk and the whole region contributed greatly to the achieving of the great victory. “Firmness, determination, courage and love for the motherland had laid the foundation for the mass heroism of our countrymen,” noted Alexey Tyukavin.
