Governor Marina Kovtun inspected waste management infrastructure in Murmansk region and held working meeting on transition to modern waste management system
Work on the reception, processing and disposal of waste began since January 1, 2019 at the waste sorting complex and landfill on a specialized ecotechnopark in Mezhdurechye.
More than 1.7 thousand tons of waste has been received for the first 10 days of work. The design capacity of the landfill is no less than 250 thousand tons of waste per year, waste sorting complex is no less than 180 thousand tons per year. This completely meets the needs of the Northern part of the Murmansk region: Murmansk, Severomorsk, Aleksandrovsk, Vidyaevo, Zaozersk, Kola and Pechenga districts.
It is planned to separate secondary raw materials, such as scrap of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, textiles, glass, polymers and waste paper in the amount of 15% or more of the total amount of incoming waste. The useful fractions are selected on the waste sorting complex and those suitable for involvement in economic turnover are mainly planned to be sent for disposal outside the region.
