“We stand ready for comprehensive development of both economic and humanitarian ties with Japan. Murmansk region has been effectively cooperating with numerous countries though Japan currently is not among our longstanding partners. It shall be changed,” said acting governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis at the Russian-Japanese Council of Governors meeting held in Moscow.
The council encompassing heads of the regions as well as members of parliaments of both countries convened for the first time at the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly on May 13. Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko noted that every Russian region has a unique potential that could be utilized in international cooperation. Start of the priority national projects implementation can additionally boost efficient interaction with foreign partners.
Andrey Chibis mentioned that invitation of Japanese business delegation to the Murmansk region can become a first step in enhancing bilateral ties.
