Murmansk region and Sweden intend to develop practical cooperation in education and construction

As part of the Days of Sweden in Murmansk a delegation of diplomats and business representatives of the Kingdom of Sweden arrived in Murmansk. It included the Consul General of the Kingdom of Sweden in St Petersburg Eva Sundquist, the Governor of Norrbotten region Björn O. Nilsson, the Chairman of the city Council of Luleå Nihad Zara, representatives of Swedish educational institutions, commercial companies and development structures.
Eva Sundquist noted that the large number of representatives of business and education shows the practical focus of the visit, not formal.
Governor of Norrbotten Björn O. Nilsson said that the two regions have a large potential and many ways to develop cooperation.
Both governors noted the outflow of population and the shortage of the highly skilled specialists among the similarities between the two regions. A possible way to solve this problem is cooperative projects in education.
In addition, the head of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis called construction and architectural design the promising areas of cooperation with Swedish specialists and companies. In the near future the team of the regional Ministry of Urban Development and Housing is to visit Norrbotten in order to establish practical ties.
The Protocol of intention between the Government of the Murmansk region and the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten was signed at the end of the meeting. The document which updates the Agreement between the regions from 1988. The parties intend to actively develop cooperation in the field of industry, tourism, culture, education, sports, youth policy, ecology and cooperation of municipalities.
