On January 22, 2020 the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis and the Consul General of the Russian Federation to Kirkenes Nikolay Konygin discussed promising areas of Russian-Norwegian cooperation during a working meeting.
The head of the region expressed readiness to continue a constructive dialogue in order to strengthen social, cultural and economic ties with the Norwegian side in close cooperation with Russian diplomats in Kirkenes. One of the important directions of development is the tourism, particularly in the borderland.
Nikolay Konygin noted that Norwegian residents are interested in the Murmansk region. Norwegians are attracted to cultural and environmental tourism.
During the meeting the parties also discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of education. Special attention was paid to the celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
