The monument to the soldiers of the Polar division was opened in the renovated square on Geroev-Severomortsev Avenue in Murmansk. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Murmansk region Andrey Chibis.

The monument, which was created by sculptor from Murmansk Alexander Arsentiev, is a figure of a soldier and a volunteer made with maximum accuracy in historical details.

The initiative to create a monument to the soldiers and militia of the heroic unit that stopped the Nazis on the outskirts of Murmansk in the fall of 1941 belongs to the city public organization “Murmansk – hero city” («Murmansk gorod geroy»). Other public associations, citizens and city authorities have joined it. The memorial became the architectural center of the square and was built in 2020 as part of the program " The creation of comfortable urban environment " on the site of the alley laid by veterans of the Polar division in 1991 on Geroev-Severomortsev Avenue.

Antonina Barantseva, a veteran of the Great Patriotic war, Vladimir Goryachkin, an honorary citizen of Murmansk and city leaders also addressed the audience. The ceremony ended with the laying of flowers.
