The submission of works for the competitive selection of the International Film Festival of Environmental and Social Cinema "Northern Character: green screen" has ended. The expert council selected 18 works from Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in the nominations "Documentary", "Short fiction film". Seven more films will be shown out of competition. The Forum of Environmental and Social Cinema will be held from 23 to 26 September 2021 for the fourth time at the sites of two border cities - Nikel (Russia) and Kirkenes (Norway).
The film forum will open with films that were filmed this year in Nikel - graduation works of students of the Pechengafilm film school. Among them are the film "Mistakes of Youth", based on the script of Tatiana Egorova from Nikel, the film "Time Capsule" by Anna Tsedrik, which tells how a teenager got into the war past, and the film "The Cat Will Go With Me" about the touching friendship between a pupil of an orphanage and a cat from Ekaterina Mavlyutova.
Currently, the competition program is being formed, which will be seen by the spectators of the festival in Russia and Norway. The international jury will name the winners in the nominations, and the fate of the Grand Prix will be determined by the audience. The international jury has already been formed. It will be headed by the well-known Russian cinematographer Igor Ter-Karapetov. Also on the jury: Russian producer and director Nikita Chisnikov, Russian director and producer Irina Shapman (Zhuravleva) Norwegian director and producer Jan Arvid Berger, General Director of the Murman State TV and Radio Company Elvira Serga, Swedish director and producer Tamara Sushko.
The festival program will include not only film screenings, but also creative meetings with Russian filmmakers, discussions and master classes. It is at this film festival that the most anticipated premieres for the citizens of Nickel will take place. Films will be shown offline at several venues in Nikel, Zapolyarny and Kirkenes. In Nikel, these are the Center for Social Projects of the Pechenga District "Second School", the Nickel Central Library, Secondary School No. 3, SC "Metallurg". In Zapolyarny there is a recreation center "October", in Kirkenes - the library of Sør-Varanger.
The motto of the festival “Northern Character: green screen” is “Nature is a source of inspiration”. The organizer of the festival - ANO "Producer Center" Northern Character "aims to form an open international platform for dialogue on environmental issues with the participation of specialists, experts, volunteers, caring and active residents of Nikel, Pechenga region and Kirkenes.
The Northern Character: Green Screen Festival is supported by the Presidential Grants Fund and the Government of the Murmansk Region. The project partners are the Center for the Development of Film Production of the Murmansk Region, the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, the Union of Journalists of Russia, the Ministry of Culture of the Murmansk Region, the Administration of the Pechenga District of the Murmansk Region, the Norwegian Commune of Sør-Varanger (Norway), the Sør-Varanger Library, and the Center for Social Projects of the Pechenga Region district "Second School" and the World Wildlife Fund. This year the festival is included in the cultural program of the action plan in connection with the Russian chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021-2023.
