"This wonderful sporting event with a rich history and unique traditions has become the hallmark of the Murmansk region. The Holiday of the North symbolizes resilience, a healthy lifestyle and fortitude in the harsh northern conditions. I am sure that these days will give the participants a lot of vivid impressions, new acquaintances and a festive atmosphere of sports and culture. I wish you all inexhaustible energy, good health, good spirits, good luck and, of course, success and victories!" said Alexander Gutsan.
"Today we celebrate a landmark event — the opening of the 90th Festival of the North and the 65th Festival of the North for students. It is more than a sport, it is the spirit and character of the North that unites generations and inspires achievements. New disciplines are emerging every year, and this year we hosted Russia's first winter swimming championships. This means that the Polar Olympics lives on, attracts new heroes, new champions, and inspires generations. The Murmansk Region is actively building and moving forward, and the International Arctic Forum is making important decisions that determine the future of the Arctic and the entire country. This holiday is for all of you. Enjoy the events, support the athletes and be inspired by their strength and courage. May this day bring you vivid emotions and impressions," said Governor Andrey Chibis.
Hundreds of spectators gathered at the Central Stadium of Trade Unions, including residents and guests of the Murmansk region, participants of the International Arctic Forum and athletes. According to the organizers, the show program combined three time periods at once: the past, present and future of the Kola Arctic.
